St. Paul Saints News Release
SHREVEPORT, LA (July 12, 2007) - Perhaps the heat and humidity got to St. Paul Saints starter Jake Postlewait as he didn't make it out of the first inning and the Saints lost 6-3 to the Shreveport Sports on Thursday night at Fairgrounds Field.
Postlewait got a visit from trainer Dan Larsen halfway through the first inning and remained in the game, but Postlewait faced just eight batters on the night giving up three doubles and two walks while giving up four runs in 0.2 innings.
The Saints did their best to come from behind scoring two runs in the fourth inning. Ben Tomas and Adam Bourassa had back-to-back singles. Marcel Longmire's fielder's choice left runners at first and second with one out. Two batters later Adam Olow hit a dribbler to third which was thrown away by Bryan Cooksey allowing two runs to score and Olow to go to second. Alex Fonseca followed with a single to right, but Olow was thrown out trying to score.
The Saints made it 4-3 in the fifth when they loaded the bases with no outs. Ben Thomas hit a fly out to the warning track in center scoring Kevin Carlson, but Longmire popped out to short and Brian Sprout lined out to short to end the inning and the Saints got no closer.
Kyle Foster did a tremendous job out of the bullpen in relief of Postlewait going 4.1 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out two.
The same two teams meet Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send LHP Adam Brandenburg (4-2, 3.84) to the mound against Sports RHP Bert Snow (3-3, 4.50). The game can be heard on KBGY 107.5 FM.
