Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
MIDDLETON, WI - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (30-10-3-3, 66 pts) were topped 3-2 by the Madison Capitols (19-19-4-2, 44 pts) on Saturday night.
Late in the second period, with a 2-1 lead, the Fighting Saints forced a turnover and found Noah Powell in front of the net. His first chance was stopped, but his second found the back of the net and the Saints appeared to have a two-goal lead. However, after the clock did not start, the officials deliberated and came to a decision that the goal did not count, ending the period.
Late in the third period, Madison added two goals on a four-minute power play to take a 3-2 lead. Despite a handful of chances with Dylan Johnson pulled, the Fighting Saints could not find an equalizing goal.
After a Charlie Arend (7) power-play goal in the first, Powell's 25th of the season gave the Saints a 2-0 lead in the second frame. Late in the middle period, Madison beat Johnson for the first time and, after the disallowed Saints goal, the teams entered the third period with the Saints ahead 2-1.
Dubuque's power play scored on its only chance of the night, but the late power-play goals from Madison were the first the Saints' penalty kill allowed after 15-straight over the previous five games.
Johnson made 20 saves for the Fighting Saints in his first regulation defeat of the season. Dubuque's season-long point-streak of 10 games was snapped with the loss as well as its five-game winning streak.
The Saints are back in action on Friday to open a road series in Youngstown against the Phantoms.
