Saginaw Spirit Falls to Erie Otters in Season Home Opener

The Saginaw Spirit returned to the Dow Event Center for their first 2014-15 regular season match up against the Erie Otters.

The Saginaw Spirit opened the scoring on a rebound goal by Tye Felhaber, his first OHL goal at 2:16 of the opening period, with an assist by Kris Bennett. The Otters retaliated quickly with a 2 on 1 goal by Nick Betz at 4:42 in the first. Assists on the play went to Dylan Strome and Mason Marchment. Erie beat Saginaw's starting goaltender Nikita Serebryakov with Nick Betz's second goal of the game at 7:07. Dylan Strome had the lone assist on the play. Erie scored again before the end of the opening period as Darren Raddysh found the back of the net on a slapshot goal at the 16:23 mark. Assists on the play came from Joel Wigle and Connor McDavid. Shots on goal after the first favored Erie 14-11.

Midway through the second period Erie beat Nikita Serebryakov on a goal off of Mason Marchment's stick at the 9:51 mark. Assists on the play went to Dylan Strome and Nick Betz. Shortly after, Patrick Fellows of the Otters had an unassisted goal, bringing the score to 5-1. Alex DeBrincat buried the 6th goal for the Otters of the evening at 12:24 in the second. The play was assisted by teammate Joel Wigle. Erie led in shots on goal after the second, 20-16.

Erie's Dylan Strome scored the lone goal in the third period. The goal came at the 12:14 mark with an assist by Nick Betz. The remainder of the third saw Saginaw and Erie with a steady parade to the penalty box after three fights broke out amongst the teams. Final shots on goal favored Erie, 46-30.

The Saginaw Spirit will return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, September 27th at 7:11 p.m. for a match up with the Sarnia Sting. From 6 until 8 p.m. there will be $2.00 beers, Pepsi's, and Jet's Pizza available for fans.
