
Saginaw Falls Short to Sudbury 6-4

Tonight at The Dow Event Center was the annual Pride Ice-Blast Festival! Later in the evening, the Spirit fell short to the Sudbury Wolves by a score of 6-4. Scoring for Spirit was spread out amongst Brandon Saad, Garret Ross, and Josh Shalla.
The Wolves came out strong in the first period. Nathan Pancel scored a short-handed goal first to give Sudbury a 1-0 lead. Josh Leivo and Michael Sgarbossa assisted Pancel's goal. At the 14:47 mark, Derek Schoenmakers launched a shot that snuck one past goalie, Jake Paterson. The Wolves would remain two goals ahead of the Spirit heading into the second period.
54 seconds into the second period, Brandon Saad notched his twenty-fifth goal of the season! Michael Fine would assist Saad's goal. Saad was feeling the adrenaline after that first goal. At the 1:49 mark, he took control of the puck and landed his second goal of the game on a power play to tie the game! Josh Shalla and Vincent Trocheck assisted Saad's goal. The Spirit would continue to fight hard and at the 7:15 mark, Garret Ross snuck one past the Wolves goalie, Joel Vienneau to take the lead. Jimmy Lodge and Jacob Ringuette would assist Ross' goal. 13:56 in the period, Michael Sgarbossa would score a backhanded goal to tie the game 3-3. Josh Leivo would assist Sgarbossa's tying goal. Moments later, Pancel would land his second goal of the game on a power play. Seconds after Pancel's goal, Andrey Kuchin would handle the puck and land a goal of his own to take a two goal lead over the Spirit. The Wolves would remain two goals ahead of the Spirit heading into the third period.
The third period was an even match between the two teams. In the first 30 seconds of the period, Brandon Archibald would get called for head checking which resulted in a game misconduct that escorted him off the ice. 17:56 in the period, Josh Shalla would bat at a flying puck that would land in the net as his thirty-fourth goal of the season! The Wolves would continue to put up a fight and at the 19:51 mark Leivo would land himself his second goal of the game with an empty net goal to seal the victory for the Wolves 6-4.
