Erie Otters News Release
Erie, PA - A late comeback by the Erie Otters was thwarted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds as the Otters lost at home Friday night, 6-3.
After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds broke the ice with three goals in a span of three minutes and six seconds to take a 3-0 lead early in the second.
The Otters were able to get on the board 6:14 into the second as Stephen Harper knocked in a rebound from a Luke Cairns shot for his 18th goal of the season. The Greyhounds would get the goal back late in the second courtesy of David Quesnele.
Jimmy McDowell scored his first goal as an Otter early in the third period as he took a centering feed from Cairns and put it past Matt Murray to make it a 4-2 game.
Harper pulled the Otters to within a goal with 5:44 remaining as he banged in a rebound from an Adam Pelech shot during an Otters power play for his second goal of the game.
The Greyhounds were able to swing the momentum back in their direction 101 seconds later on a goal by Brandon Alderson, and Ryan Sproul added an empty netter to finish off the win for Sault Ste. Marie.
The Otters return to Tullio Arena Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. as they host the Kingston Frontenacs. For tickets, call 814-452-4857 or go to ottershockey.com.
