Sacramento Republic FC to Host Ventura County Fusion on May 14

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 9, 2014) - Sacramento Republic FC will take on the Ventura County Fusion on May 14 in a second-round matchup in the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Cosumnes River College Stadium in Sacramento, Calif. The U.S. Open Cup is an 80-team, single elimination soccer tournament that includes all 38 professional soccer teams in the United States as well as 42 amateur teams.

The first round of the U.S. Open Cup took place on Wednesday, May 7 and consisted of eight matches between amateur clubs. Ventura County Fusion defeated CD Aguiluchos 2-1 in order to advance to their second round match versus Republic FC. The tournament's second round will include all 14 USL PRO teams, the eight first round winners and 26 other amateur teams.

"The Open Cup means a lot because it is an opportunity to gain recognition on a nationwide scale," said Republic FC Technical Director Graham Smith. "It would be indicative of our ability to compete at a higher level both on and off the field."

Republic FC head coach Predrag "Preki" Radosavljeviæ is suspended for the first two matches of U.S. Open Cup play stemming from an incident in 2009 while he was head coach of Chivas USA. The winner of the match will play on May 28 in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.

The match will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14 at Republic FC's training site, Cosumnes River College Stadium, located at 8401 Center Parkway Sacramento, CA 95823. Republic FC season ticket holders will be offered first option to purchase tickets through the club. If additional tickets become available, they will be offered to the general public next week.
