Sacramento Republic FC News Release
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (October 21, 2015) - Sacramento Republic FC announced that they have exercised the contract options on forward Cameron Iwasa and midfielder Joaquin Rivas. Both players will return to Republic FC for the 2016 USL season.
"Next season is a big season for both Iwasa and Rivas," said Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle. "These two exciting prospects had a taste of first team football in Sacramento. The development in their game has been tremendous. They are players that I am looking forward to pushing on and commanding a regular place on our team. Both showed glimpses of magic when they played and I like that they are attack-minded players."
Iwasa, a Sacramento native, appeared in 22 matches for Republic FC in 2015, his rookie season. He scored two goals and recorded two assists in all competitions, including a match-winning goal against English Premier League club Sunderland AFC on July 14, 2015. Iwasa scored his first professional goal against Portland Timbers 2 on April 2.
Rivas also spent his rookie season with Republic FC, appearing in 19 matches in all competition, including 13 USL appearances in 2015. Rivas' first professional assist resulted in Iwasa's first professional goal on April 2. Rivas scored a goal in a friendly against the New York Cosmos (NASL) at Hughes Stadium on February 28 and played the second most minutes (745) of any rookie for Republic FC this season, trailing only Iwasa (815).
Republic FC's first round of open tryouts take place October 31 - November 1, at Cosumnes River College. Those interested in trying out may register at SacRepublicFC.com. For more information on tryouts or to view full biographies and statistics, visit SacRepublicFC.com.
