Sacramento beats Edmonton 10-5, will host Trappers on Friday

The Sacramento River Cats (2-0) beat the Edmonton Trappers (0-2) 10-5 on Thursday at TELUS Field in Edmonton, Alberta (Canada). With the victory, the River Cats have a 2-0 lead over the Trappers in the best-of-five PCL Pacific Conference Championship Series.

Edmonton took an early lead with a two-run first inning, both runs scoring on a double by 3B Ryan Balfe. The Trappers held the River Cats scoreless through four innings, before Sacramento cut the lead in half (2-1) in the fifth inning when SS Jose Flores tripled and scored. The Cats took the lead one inning later with a two-run sixth. LF Mike Edwards singled and later scored on a wild pitch, while 3B Luis Lopez doubled and scored on a single by RF Mike Lockwood.

The Cats increased their lead to five runs (10-5), as they outscored Edmonton 7-3 over the final three innings. Edwards went 4-for-4 in the game, while Lopez and DH Jason Grabowski each had 3 RBI. Lopez hit the Cats' lone run run.

LHP John Rheinecker (1-0) earned the win, allowing 2 ER on 5 H in 6.0 IP. RHP Britt Reames (0-1) took the loss for Edmonton. He allowed 3 ER on 8 H in 5.2 IP.
