SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - Sounders FC 2 (5-20-5, 20 points) on Saturday dropped a 3-1 decision to San Antonio FC at Toyota Field in Texas. Azriel Gonzalez scored his second goal of the season just before halftime on a feed from Shandon Hopeau for S2's lone tally of the evening. The teams split the season series, as Seattle earned a 3-2 home victory in the first meeting on August 11.
Gonzalez's goal in the 45th minute pulled S2 to within a goal just before the break, 2-1. He took a pass from Hopeau on the left side, cut it back and dribbled to his right, then fired a shot from outside of the area that found the bottom right corner of the goal. The assist was Hopeau's first of the season.
San Antonio got on the board first in the 19th minute when Lance Laing finished a pass from Ever Guzman. Laing added an assist just seven minutes later when he sent a cross into the area that was finished by Ethan Bryant for his first professional goal. In second-half stoppage time, Maxi Rodriguez made it 3-1 when he put home a rebound off S2 goalkeeper Jacob Castro.
Sounders FC 2 returns to action on Wednesday, October 3 against LA Galaxy II at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. PT and the match will be live-streamed on ESPN+.
