Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TENN. - The Knoxville Ice Bears and head coach Jeff Carr announced Tuesday the signing of returning forward Scott Cuthrell.

Cuthrell, 25, joined the Ice Bears after spending October 2018 with the Tulsa Oilers (ECHL). Once he was on the Knoxville roster, Cuthrell scored a team-high 44 points (12G, 32A) in his first SPHL season. Before turning pro, Cuthrell spent four seasons at Nichols College (NCAA III) - the last of which he served as team captain.

"Scott takes an analytical approach to the game and recognizes scoring chances before they happen," Carr said of his top center. "He was an SPHL All-Rookie and helped us to the semi[finals] in his first year pro, so he's eager to, and capable of, taking on the challenges of the upcoming season."

Cuthrell is effective end-to-end, using his speed and puck handling skills to generate as many chances as possible for his line mates. Cuthrell's elusiveness is another great asset for Carr's fast-paced offense. Knoxville's roster is filling up with a significant number of prominent returners which will put team chemistry and morale at high levels, early in the season.

The Ice Bears annual Free Agent Camp will be held September 21st and 22nd, just a month before the start of the new SPHL season. Knoxville begins their 2019-2020 schedule at home versus the Evansville Thunderbolts, on October 18th.
