Ryan Scoma Named Can-Am Hitter of the Week
August 13, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) - Rockland Boulders outfielder Ryan Scoma led his team to a 4-3 week against the top two teams in the standings and has been named Can-Am League's Hitter of the Week for the week ending August 12. Scoma batted .370, going 10-for-27 over the seven-game span, adding a double, four home runs and 10 RBI.
His highlights of the week included going 2-for-5 with four RBI in a 9-3 win in Quebec on August 7, a three RBI performance in a 9-4 victory over New Jersey at home on August 10, and a pair of solo homers in a 6-5 loss at New Jersey on August 12. In addition, after playing first base for most of the season, he was moved back to his customary slot in the outfield where he contributed some big plays throwing out opposing runners.
Scoma, who has led the league in average for much of the season, currently sits in second place with a .338 batting average behind Quebec's Rene Leveret (.346). His 21 doubles has him tied for fourth in that category, and he stands in eighth place in both home runs and RBI, with 12 and 56 respectively. Along with Keith Brachold, he is one of just two players to appear in all 81 Boulders games thus far this season.
This is the fourth player honor received by a Rockland player this season and the third hitter so honored, as Ryan Mollica and Phil Cuadrado took Hitter of the Week earlier this season. He also becomes the second Boulder to earn league kudos in as many weeks, following Bobby Blevins, who was the Can-Am's Pitcher of the Week ending August 6.
