Frederick Keys News Release
For a second consecutive night, the Keys led for much of the ballgame and held on late to upend Winston-Salem, doing so by a final count of 5-4 on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. A night after setting down the side in order in the ninth inning, reliever Ryan Berry put his stamp on the role of closer earning a five-out save.
The Keys grabbed the lead in the second inning. 1B Aaron Baker popped up a ball that fell inside the left field line for a double. Then DH Mike Flacco grounded a ball through the legs of Dash SS Marcus Semien and Baker came around to score.
The Keys upped the advantage in the fifth inning. C Justin Dalles was hit by a pitch and then went to third base on a double by 3B Mike Mosby. SS Garabez Rosa then doubled both runners home and the Keys led 3-0. After a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to third base, CF Trent Mummey singled through a drawn in infield to give Frederick a 4-0 lead.
Keys starter Tyler Wilson allowed a two-run home run in the fifth inning and departed with the lead having shrunk to 4-3 in the sixth inning. The Keys would use Andy Loomis, David Walters, David Baker and Berry the rest of the way.
The Keys got an insurance run in the seventh inning when with two down Baker singled to right field with 2B Ty Kelly at first base. The Dash RF Michael Earley misplayed the ball and Kelly came all around from first base to score.
Winston-Salem got a run back in the eighth to make it 5-4 but Berry got a double play ground ball to end the inning. He worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to end the game.
In the simmering heat, RHP Kyle Simon goes to the hill Saturday, June 30th at 7:00 p.m. in Winston-Salem looking to deliver a series sweep. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior with The Keys On-Deck Show on 1450-AM The Source.
Frederick returns home Sunday, July 1st for Zoo Night featuring animals from the Catoctin Zoo. There will be a camel, parrots, baby alligators and a dove release amongst other things.
