THE HILLCATS: Last night, the Hillcats lost to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 6-5...The Blue Rocks scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to win in come back fashion...Two costly errors from 3B Edward Salcedo and C Chad Comer led to the final two Wilmington runs being unearned...Salcedo and 2B Matt Weaver both homered in the game...CF Mycal Jones had four hits in the leadoff spot but the HIllcats fell late, now losing three straight...The 'Cats are now 4-4 in the second half and tied for first place in the Northern Division with the Potomac Nationals and Frederick Keys...

VS WILMINGTON: Lynchburg is 4-4 against the Blue Rocks this season, 2-2 in Wilmington and 2-2 at home...They have blanked the Blue Rocks twice this season, winning each game 1-0...After last night's one-run game, the two teams are dead even at 30-30 in runs scored against each other this year...Lynchburg is hitting .264 as a team this season but just .230 as a unit against Wilmington, and that's up 12 points after putting up 11 hits last night...

THREE'S A TREND: The Hillcats lost their third straight game last night...The last time they lost three consecutive contests, was when they lost a season-high eight in a row from May 29 - June 5...The 'Cats also dropped their last series 3-1 to the Pelicans...Their first series loss since getting swept in three games by the Potomac Nationals June 1-3...

FIRST STRIKE: Lynchburg fell behind for the fifth straight game last night and lost 6-5...They are 1-4 in that stretch...At 33-9, the 'Cats hold the best record in the circuit when they take the first lead...The Winston-Salem Dash (35-13) and Myrtle Beach Pelicans (31-12) have scored first more times this season...The Hillcats have struck first in 54 percent of their games this season...

WEAVING THROUGH TRAFFIC: UTIL Matt Weaver went 2-for-3 last night with a double, a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored...He now has five doubles, two triples, and eight homers this season for a total of 15 extra base hits...That makes up 47 percent of his 32 total hits this season...He is 13-for-37 (.378) since June 10, raising his average from .200 to .252...His eight homers are tied with 3B Edward Salcedo and C Braeden Schlehuber for the most on the team, but he's hit his in only 127 at-bats...Salcedo has 269 at-bats, more than twice that of Weaver and Schlehuber has 160...

I SUGGEST YOU STAY, SIR: 3B Edward Salcedo committed his 21st error of the season last night...That is the most of any third baseman in the league...Wilmington's Cheslor Cuthbert is next at 16...Cuthbert turns 20 in November, and Salcedo will turn 21 a month from tomorrow...Last night's error came at a crucial time as well, on what could have been an inning ending double play ball...Instead, no outs were recorded and two unearned runs later scored and the 'Cats lost 6-5...Salcedo began the move from shortstop to third base last season, and has only played third this year...He committed 47 errors between shortstop and third base last year...

NEW TEAM, FAMILIAR TERRITORY: UTIL Bobby Stevens joined the Braves organization Monday and joined the Hillcats Tuesday...Prior to that he was playing in the Orioles organization from 2008-2012...Had spent most of the first half of the season as a Frederick Key, where he played over 300 games and was closing in on the all-time games played record for the club...He doubled and singled in his first two at-bats for the 'Cats but is 0-for-10 since, and on the season he is batting .269 with six home runs and 16 RBI...

JUNE BUG: SS Nick Ahmed began the month of June 0-for 12 in his first four games...Since snapping the slide, he has hit his way on safely in 18 of 22 games...He is 26-for-85 (.306)...Has eight doubles, two triples, three home runs, thirteen runs, and twelve RBI in his last twenty games...His average was down to .248 (lowest since 4/10, .200)...Has raised it 17 points to .265 during the 22-game stretch...

I CAN BE, CENTER FIELD: OF Mycal Jones went 4-for-5 last night extending his current hit streak to 10 games...His longest streak since hitting in 10 straight from June 10-20 in 2010 in his first 10 Carolina League games with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2010 Braves affiliate)...He is batting .447 (17-for-38) during the streak with six doubles, three RBI, and five runs scored...One of the two runs was the walk-off winner in Friday night's 4-3 extra inning win over the Salem Red Sox...He scored on Matt Weaver's squeeze bunt in the bottom of the 11th...Jones has taken over center field duties yet again since Saturday when OF Matt Lipka left the game early...Jones is hitting .323 when playing center field this season as opposed to just .207 when playing left field...The 10-game streak has raised his batting average 48 points, from .231 to .279 heading into tonight...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Chase Boruff was signed as a non-drafted free agent July 26, 2010 by the Kansas City Royals...Attended Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN for four years before signing...Play football his freshman year, and pitched for the baseball team his last three years...The Knoxville, TN native graduated from Halls High School in 2006...Made his professional debut August 3, 2010 with the Surprise Royals...Gave up a run in an inning and one-third and took his first loss...Made six appearances total his first season...Went 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA and three saves...Promoted to Low-A Kane County in 2011..Went 4-1 with a 2.30 ERA in 41 relief appearances...Struck out 63 in 66.2 innings...Recorded seven saves...This year, he is 1-4 with a 5.93 ERA in 17 appearances, 2 starts...Made his first professional start June 17 and complete a career high three and one-third innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits and took a no-decision....Gave up five earned on six hits and only last two and one -third innings in his last start on Sunday...Took the loss...Pitched one perfect inning for a save against the Hillcats May 17...
