Russell Returns to Barnstormers

DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers have re-signed defensive back Phillip Russell to the 2024 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.
Russell (5-9, 195, Jacksonville State) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his second season with the Iowa Barnstormers after joining the team at the tail end of the 2023 season. Collegiately, Russell was with Jacksonville State University for three years. After redshirting as a freshman, Russell saw the field in the following two seasons appearing in 24 total games with the Gamecocks.
"We got Phil in for the last two games last season and he immediately brought a physical presence to our DB room, one that had been sorely lacking," said Coach Mogensen. "I am excited to see how Phillip can develop with a full training camp this season.
Russell is returning to the Iowa Barnstormers excited to see the 2024 season from start to finish.
"Coach Moges was the only one who believed in me and gave me the opportunity to play in 2023," said Russell. "I signed with Iowa for the last two games in the 2023 season. After playing those two games, I knew that I would love to call Iowa home. Coach gave me another opportunity to start a full season in 2024 and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. Go Barnstormers!"
Russell will enter the Iowa Barnstormers 2024 Training Camp in the spring.
