Rush Reveal 2010-11 Regular Season Schedule
July 23, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The 2010-11 Central Hockey League (CHL) schedule has been officially announced, with the 594-game season beginning on Friday, October 15 in six locations, and concluding on Sunday, March 27 with four contests. Each of the CHL's 18 member clubs will play a 66-game schedule. Weekends make up the most contests in the schedule with 77% of the games taking place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. In all, 455 of the 594 games will occur over the weekends. The extended season means the Rush will host a total of 33 contests at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
The Rush begin their quest to defend the CHL Championship on October 16th in a road contest against the Fort Wayne Komets, last season's International Hockey League (IHL) Champions. Rapid City's first home contest will take place on October 23rd against the Colorado Eagles, a team they will face a total 12 times throughout the regular season.
The Rush schedule is highlighted by 28 weekend games, as well as a number of key dates.
"We are very pleased with our home schedule this season," said Rush General Manager Tim Hill. "We secured all major dates we were looking for, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Eve. Not only are these dates traditionally well attended, but they also allow our players and coaches to be home with their families, instead of on the road. "Finally, we have worked very hard to secure 28 weekend games out of 33. We wanted to reward our growing season ticket base with less weekday games so that they can use their tickets or give them to friends and family."
Notable games include November 26th and December 26th against the Colorado Eagles and a New Year's Eve battle against the Wichita Thunder.
The CHL features a new look this season with five new teams, the Bloomington PrairieThunder, Dayton Gems, Evansville IceMen (played in Muskegon last season), Fort Wayne Komets and Quad City Mallards who join the league for the 2010-11 season after playing last season as the International Hockey League (IHL). The new teams will get a taste of CHL competition early on as the Komets will travel to Prescott Valley, Arizona for a pair of games versus the Sundogs on October 22 and 23, the most mileage between any CHL opponents that face-off this season (1,819 miles).
