Rush Outlast Sundogs In A Perfect Shootout

(RAPID CITY, SD) - Sean Erickson tied the game for the Rush in the third period and his teammates followed up with a perfect shootout round, as the Rapid City Rush outlasted the Arizona Sundogs 2-1 in a phenomenal hockey game played by both sides.
It took almost 42 minutes of play for either team to ignite the goal lamp, but the Sundogs would be the first to strike. 2:02 into the final frame of action Arizona's Riley Emmerson would give his team the 1-0 lead that either team was desperately looking for. Moments later, on their sixth power play of the game, the Rush would crack the goal line of Andrew Engelage. Scott Wray would initiate a pass to Sean Erickson at the point, whose shot would be deflected past Engelage by Kevin Harvey, scoring his first goal for the Rush this season in ten games played. The goal, tying the game with 13:47 left in the game, would be the last goal scored in regulation. The Rush would be tested moments later, as they would have to kill off a double-minor power play with just under six minutes remaining in the game. The Rush would kill off the elongated Arizona man-advantage, and to a shootout we would go.
Tim Boron would make a key stop to begin overtime, and would follow that up with a perfect shootout round as well, stopping all three shooters he faced. Assisting him in the perfect effort were Jared Brown, Jesse Schultz, and Konrad Reeder, who buried all of their shots to help the Rush outlast the Sundogs, taking home a 2-1 win.
Tim Boron stopped 27 shots on the evening, as well as all three shooters faced in the shootout for his 75th win as a Rapid City Rush goaltender (22-10-1). Kevin Harvey scored his first goal in a Rush uniform, a power play goal that tied the game up at 1-1 in the third period. The goal is Harvey's seventh point in just ten games played this season in the CHL. The Rush penalty kill unit had another 100% outing, stopping their only power play faced in the game: a double minor power play with less than six minutes remaining in the third. Both teams will rematch tomorrow night at 7:05 MST in Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, the final time these two teams will meet this season.
