Mallards' Comeback Falls Short in Tulsa

February 21, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

TULSA, Okla. - Ben Gordon broke loose for a hat trick and an assist and Adam Pleskach snapped a 3-3 tie with 6:16 left in the third period as the host Tulsa Oilers defeated the Quad City Mallards 4-3 Friday night. The setback stretched the Mallards' (24-14-8, 56 points) losing streak to three games and dropped Quad City to sixth place in the Central Hockey League while the victory extended the Oilers' (26-23-3, 55 points) winning streak to three games and lifted Tulsa past the Mallards into fifth place.

Pleskach pounced on a rebound to bury what proved to be the game winner just under three minutes after a Justin Fox power play goal from the high slot had evened the score at three.

The Oilers twice built two goal leads in the second period; the Mallards twice battled back to within one in the second. Tulsa was on the power play when Gordon scored his second goal of the night from the left wing circle to give the Oilers a 2-0 advantage at 1:04 of the middle frame. The Mallards got on the scoreboard for the first time when Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel fired the puck in from the slot at the 5:56 mark. At 10:41 Gordon tipped in his third goal and stretched the gap to 3-. Jeff Lee narrowed the margin to 3-2 from point blank range with just 25 seconds left in the second.

It was Gordon who had gotten the Mallards off to a fine start by charging into the right wing circle to snap home the game's first goal at 4:39 of the opening period.

The Mallards return to action on the road tomorrow night against the Wichita Thunder. The Mallards next play at home next Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Mavericks.
