Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush made it a weekend sweep of the Denver Cutthroats at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday night, earning a 3-1 triumph. The win marks eight-straight preseason victories for the Rush who now embark on their 66-game regular season. Rush Head Coach Joe Ferras now has to make cuts to comprise the final 19-man roster that will debut on Friday, October 19th in Bloomington.
Rookie Jeff Lee earned his first point of the preseason when a shot from Winston Day Chief redirected off of Lee's body and in, giving the Rush a 1-0 lead late in the first.
The middle frame featured a trio of goals, and Lee was again in the mix. The young forward slid a pass to the back door where fellow rookie Justin Faryna slammed home his first point of the preseason for a 2-0 lead just 3:26 in. Just over three minutes later, the Cutthroats got on the board and cut the lead in half on Troy Schwab's powerplay goal from the right side of the net. However, the Rush regained the two-goal advantage when defenseman Riley Weselowski blasted a slap shot from the point that redirected past Denver goaltender Kieran Millan to make it 3-1 after two.
Getting his second straight start, rookie netminder Neil Conway shut the door, making 15 of his 36 saves in the third period alone.
The game held a physical tone throughout the night as three fights led to a total of 71 minutes and ten powerplay chances.
