Cutthroats End Preseason with 4-3 Loss to Tulsa

DODGE CITY, KS - The Denver Cutthroats ended their preseason, three-game weekend with a 4-3 loss to the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, Kansas.

AJ Gale made it a 4-3 deficit for the Cutthroats 7:54 into the third period for his second goal of night, but the Oilers (2-0-0) held on for the victory in the Cutthroats (0-2-1) final exhibition of the preseason.

In an offensive opening period that featured a combined four goals and 27 shots, the Oilers took a 2-0 lead early as Ben Gordon scored a power play goal 5:37 into the contest, then Ryan Cramer added an even-strength tally just 20 seconds later.

Jeremiah Ketts extended the Oilers' lead to 3-0 with a power play goal from the left circle with 6:15 remaining in the period. Gale responded for the Cutthroats just over a minute later at the left side of the goal crease.

The Oilers added another power play goal 7:51 into period two on a Matt Register blast from the top of the left circle to make it 4-1. Denver cut back into the Oiler lead with a man-advantage goal by Will LaPorte with 4:57 remaining.

Goaltender Kent Patterson started the game for the Cutthroats and finished with 18 saves. Kieran Millan entered the game midway through the second period in relief and stopped 16 shots.

The Cutthroats went 1-for-6 on the power play. Tulsa finished 2-for-7. The Fish outshot the Oilers 37-34 for the game.

The Cutthroats now return home for their final week of training camp and begin the 2012-13 regular season on October 19 and 20 against the visiting Missouri Mavericks. Game time is set for 7:05 PM MST.
