Rapid City Rush News Release
(Rapid City, SD) - The Rapid City Rush have acquired forward Paul Kelly in a trade completed with the Central Hockey League's Tulsa Oilers. As part of the trade, the Rush have sent defenseman Rob Dmytruk to Tulsa.
"Paul brings a wealth of experience to the Rush having played in over 200 pro games," said Coach Joe Ferras. "Paul is a big strong centermen that we are looking for to provide us with that secondary scoring that we have been looking for."
Kelly played his college hockey at Coach Ferras' alma mater, SUNY-Plattsburgh. Kelly spent last season skating for the Oilers where he accumulated 26 goals and 27 assists for 53 points in 62 games. At the start of this season, Kelly suited up for the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Kelly amassed 14 points and 19 penalty minutes in 28 games for the Stingrays.
"I've heard a lot of great things about this city and this team and I came here because I strongly believe we can make a playoff run," said Kelly. "I look forward to helping the Rush here in the second half of the season."
Kelly played his first game for Rapid City on Wednesday night against Colorado and will be in the lineup this weekend against the Wichita Thunder. Both games on Friday and Saturday start at 7:05pm at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Tickets are still available for both contests.
