Edinburg Roadrunners News Release
EDINBURG- Leugim Barroso continued his hot hitting by driving in three runs as the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings defeated the Edinburg Roadrunners 5-4 at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Sunday night.
The WhiteWings (29-20) snapped first place Edinburg's five game winning streak and their own seven game road losing streak with the victory.
Luis Noel (4-2) threw six strong innings, shutting out the Roadrunners (31-19) for the first five innings before being touched for two runs in the sixth.
But it was Barroso, who has collected multiple hits in 11 of his past 13 games, who drove in two runs in the second inning with a two-out single to give the WhiteWings a 3-0 lead off Aaron Tullo (2-1), then added another RBI single with one out in the top of the sixth to chase Tullo and plate Jacinto Cipriota to make the score 5-0.
Edinburg rallied for two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, but Wander Perez was able to strike out Felix Molina with the bases loaded and two out in the seventh.
After Alberto Reyes pitched a scoreless eighth, Nick Lenzendorf retired all three batters he faced in the ninth to record his second save.
The two teams meet again in Edinburg tonight in the rubber game of the three game series at 7:05 p.m. with Edinburg lefthander Miguel Martinez pitching against Rio Grande Valley's Luis Chrinios. Both pitchers lead the North American Baseball League with six victories.
