Abilene Prairie Dogs News Release

FORT WORTH - Tommy Hoenshell is the newest Prairie Dog. The right-handed pitcher from Orange County, CA has signed with Abilene and will start for the Dogs on Sunday night in Fort Worth. Adam Rowe, who was injured during the fifth inning of his start of Wednesday, was placed on the inactive list.

Hoenshell, at 6'6" and 220 lbs, played college baseball at both Cypress College in California and CSU Bakersfield. In 2011 at Bakersfield, the righty appeared in 16 games and made 14 starts. Over 106 innings pitched, he allowed 117 hits and 12 walks while collecting 62 strikeouts, opponents batted .281 against the right-hander.

After trading Mitch Mormann on July 7, an off day on Monday allowed the Dogs to survive the week with a four man rotation. Only Billy Petrick, who suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday, was asked to pitch on short rest. Rowe suffered a minor injury to his left groin and is expected to miss only one start.

At 6:05, the Dogs conclude an 11-game series with the Fort Worth Cats at LaGrave Field. Hear the game on 106.9 KLGD or on the internet at abileneprairiedogs.com beginning with the First Financial Pregame show at 5:55.
