San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- The Colts scored seven runs in the second inning, and then held on to defeat the McAllen Thunder, 12-9, Sunday night at Foster Field.
San Angelo sent 11 men to the plate in the second, and five of them drove in runs. Shortstop Ryan Hutson and third baseman Landon Camp both had two-RBI hits. Camp went 2-for-2 in the inning.
McAllen starter Demetrius Banks (3-4) surrendered all seven runs in the inning, and took the loss. He was taken out after the second.
Following the offensive explosion by San Angelo, both clubs traded runs through the middle and late innings.
Trailing 8-1, the Thunder scored four runs to cut their deficit to 8-5 by the bottom of the fifth. Catcher Matt Redding hit a two-run homer, his first of the year, in the fourth. Then down 11-5, McAllen notched four more runs in the seventh, making it 11-9 Colts.
First baseman Daryl Jones added an insurance run for the Colts with a leadoff homer in the eighth. It was his third home run of the season.
Reliever Chris Weast (1-2) earned the win for San Angelo. He gave up two runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings. Starter Mike Hart allowed five runs on as many hits in 4 2/3 innings. Since Hart did not pitch the minimum five innings required for a win, he took a no decision. Closer Erik Draxton pitched a scoreless ninth to collect his league-best 13th save.
The win snaps the Colts' season-high, five-game losing streak and improves them to 23-26. Meanwhile, the loss drops McAllen to 17-33. San Angelo begins a four-game series against the Fort Worth Cats Monday evening at Foster Field. It will be Haircuts in the Ballpark Night, sponsored by SportClips. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
