Rumble Bees Blow Lead

December 20, 2019 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Battle Creek Rumble Bees News Release

The Elmira Enforcers rallied from a seemingly insurmountable late second period deficit and on the impetus of 5-consecutive goals overcame the Battle Creek Rumble Bees, 6-5, Friday night at The Rink Battle Creek.

It appeared the Rumble Bees were on their way to their first ever victory in their 21st game of the season when they, themselves exploded for 5-unanswered goals, with 4 of those coming in the second period, to build their most sizeable lead of the season at 5-1.

Ryan Alves triggered the torrent for BC by delivering a perfect 3-goals "hat trick" with the latter 2 on power plays 3:02 apart. Earlier, Dave Nicoletti and Marco Luciani had rallied the Rumble Bees from a 1-0 deficit before the Alves goal-scoring histrionics.

However, the Enforcers struck late in that same second stanza at the 19:09 mark when Dale Deon connected on a "seeing eye" point shot to halt the Battle Creek flurry.

In the third period, the tables turned as Elmira struck with 4-more unanswered goals of their own with 2 of those coming on their power play, giving them 3-PPG on the night. Kyle Stevens emerged as the ultimate scoring hero for the come-from-behind minded Elmirans as he connected on both the game tying goal at 10:48 and the tie-breaking and ultimate game winning goal on a shorthanded strike at the 16:20 mark. In the process, the Enforcers seized their second lead of the night and sealed the win, 6-5.

Elmira outshot the Rumble Bees, 45-40 and 22-7 in that fateful final frame. Battle Creek's 22- first period shots on goal were a season's best for a single period as were their 40-shots on goal the most in one game.

The Rumble Bees power play was 2-7; Elmira was 3-7.

The Rumble Bees 5-goals were their most for one game this season as they enjoyed the lead entering the third period for the first time this season.

The same two teams will tangle, again, Saturday night at 7:35 pm at The Rink Battle Creek to cap the two-games series and wrap up the pre-Christmas schedule on "Ugly Christmas Sweater Night.
