
Ruiz's homer seals 6-3 Thunder win

(Harrisburg, PA)- A homer and two RBI from Randy Ruiz, along with three hits and two RBI from CF Brett Gardner, led the Thunder to a 6-3 win over Harrisburg on Tuesday night. The win was the third in four games on their current six-game road trip.
And win Portland winning and Binghamton losing, the Thunder hold a 4 1/2 game lead over the Sea Dogs and 5 1/2 over the B-Mets in Northern Division play.
The Thunder (67-54) were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a double steal in the 3rd Inning, where SS Felix Escalona stole home plate, and an RBI single from Ruiz in the 5th Inning. harrisburg tied the game with two unearned runs in thebottom of the fifth off Thunder starter Matt Childers, but Trenton took the lead back at 3-2 in the 6th Inning. LF Justin Christian singled, stole 2nd and 3rd Bases, and then scored on an RBI single from Gardner. Christian now leads the Eastern League with 60 stolen bases.
Childers (2-2) allowed two unearned runs in 6 1/3 innings for the win. He walked four and struck out five.
After the teams traded runs in the 8th Inning, Ruiz hit his homer off Senators reliever Alex Morales to lead off the 9th Inning for a 5-3 lead. A fielder's choice ground ball later in the inning added the sixth run for the Thunder.
Senators starter Matt Chico (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs (one earned) in five innings.
The series continues on Wednesday at 6:35 PM. Jason Jones (3-4, 4.54) starts for the Thunder against Harrisburg's Garrett Mock (0-1, 67.50), who was acquired as part of the Livan Hernandez trade a week ago.
