Sea Dogs defeat Fisher Cats 9-7 to open three game series

The Portland Sea Dogs have secured sole possession of second place in the Northern Division, defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9-7 on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The Fisher Cats are now 11-10 against the Sea Dogs this season.

Portland scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Keoni De Renne's RBI fielder's choice. The Sea Dogs added an insurance run in the eighth inning on Chris Durbin's one-out, run-scoring single. Jon Searles (6-3) worked one scoreless inning to earn the victory for Portland.

Searles entered the game in the seventh inning with the Sea Dogs leading, 7-6 and runners at first and third base with no outs. Searles allowed the tying run but worked out of the inning, keeping the game tied at seven. Danny Hill surrendered two runs in the final two innings to suffer his seventh loss of the season.

Edgar Martinez worked two scoreless innings to earn his 11th save of the season and his second on the homestand. Andrew Dobies retired the first 11 batters in his third Double-A start for Portland. The lefthander worked five and 1/3 innings on five hits, three runs (one earned), one walk and five strikeouts.

The Sea Dogs tagged Jesse Litsch for seven runs in the fourth inning, sending 11 men to the plate. Brandon Moss started the scoring with an RBI single, scoring Jeremy West. Following Moss's hit, Dusty Brown delivered a two-run double, De Renne and David Bacani added RBI singles and Jacoby Ellsbury capped off the inning with a two-run bomb to right field.

New Hampshire scored three times off Dobies in the fifth inning and four off Brett Evert in the seventh. Fisher Cats outfielder Ryan Patterson hit his first Double-A homer, a 2-run shot, in the 5th to end a streak of 112 at bats without a home run as a member of the Fisher Cats.
