Akron RubberDucks News Release
Erie's Spencer Turnbull combined with three relievers on a six-hit shutout, and Jake Robson cracked a key RBI single, as the SeaWolves blanked the Akron RubberDucks, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Turning Point
Erie (14-21) used small-ball effectively to score both its runs in the sixth inning off Jake Paulson (2-1). After a lead-off infield single by Herlis Rodriguez, Danny Woodrow slapped a single to left, his first Double-A hit. A.J. Simcox executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to second and third. Robson followed with a single to right to score Rodriguez for a 1-0 Erie lead. With Woodrow at third and one out, Will Maddox pushed a safety-squeeze bunt up the first base line to chase home Woodrow to make it 2-0.
Mound Presence
Paulson absorbed the hard-luck loss despite pitching a season-high seven innings and allowing just four hits and two earned runs. He walked one and fanned six. Newcomer Kieran Lovegrove made his Double-A debut and worked the final two innings in relief of Paulson, allowing no runs on one hit.
Duck Tales
Shortstop Willi Castro was the only RubberDucks hitter with two hits. He was 2-4, with a pair of singles, and added a stolen base in the first inning.
