Akron RubberDucks News Release

Binghamton's Gavin Cecchini stroked a three-run double, and righthander Luis Cessa tossed seven shutout innings, as the Mets slipped by the Akron RubberDucks, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Cecchini, a 2012 first-round pick by the Mets, pulled a bases-loaded double down the left field line with one out in the fifth inning against Akron starter Shawn Morimando (5-7). It chased home three runs and broke a scoreless tie.

Mound Presence

Morimando held the B-Mets (38-36) hitless until through the first four innings. He issued a lead-off walk in the fifth and then gave up his first hit of the day- a single by Aderlin Rodriguez. Morimando got the next hitter on a pop-up, and then induced a grounder to short that was dropped for an error by Erik Gonzalez, loading the bases. Cecchini followed with his three-run double. Morimando lasted six innings, allowing only three hits. He walked three and struck out six. Right-handers Jacob Lee (2 IP) and Joe Colon (1 IP) provided scoreless relief.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (40-36) avoided the shutout thanks to Anthony Gallas's solo homer in the ninth inning. It was his team-leading, seventh of the year, and completed a three-hit afternoon for Gallas. Ronny Rodriguez was 1-3, and extended his hitting streak to six games 9-22, .409). Yandy Diaz was 2-4, with a triple, raising his batting average to a season-high, .312.
