Royals Wrap-Up Weekend with Loss to Silvertips
February 26, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - Victoria Royals forward Teydon Trembecky recorded his 10th goal of the season in a 5-2 loss to the Everett Silvertips at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Sunday.
The 17-year-old leads all Royals rookies with 19 total points (10 goals, nine assists) in 37 games this season with the Royals and has recorded goals in back-to-back contests.
The game also saw Victoria defenceman Justin Kipkie record his third goal over the past two contests, bringing his point total to 31 (8 goals, 23 assists) on the year.
The game remained close for the opening two frames, but a pair of late third period goals by Silvertips forwards Jackson Berezowski and Austin Roest would ultimately make the difference and deny a furious comeback attempt by the Royals.
While the late comeback fell short in the end, Royals General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price was pleased with the determination showed by his club on Sunday:
"I thought it was a really good game," said Price following the game. "It was really tight the whole way. There wasn't much ice to be had, we had to fight for ice through the neutral zone, through the blueline, certainly around the net...Two really competitive teams, and a really competitive game. I think the difference in the end was special teams, they got the powerplay goal late to extend the lead and then we had the chances there late with the goalie out, but we couldn't quite tie it."
Royals starting goaltender Braden Holt made 29 saves on 33 shots in the loss while counterpart Tyler Palmer stopped all but two of the 25 shots he faced.
Everett (29-24-2-1) would count the lone goal in the opening frame, coming off the stick of forward Ben Hemmerling at the 12:26 mark, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead headed into the second.
Victoria (15-37-6-1) would get on the board in the second as forward Teydon Trembecky tipped in a Nate Misskey point shot at the 9:27 mark to tie the game at 1-1. Forward Robin Sapousek would collect the secondary assist on the play.
However, the Silvertips would soon regain the lead with a goal by forward Austin Roest (30) at 10:37, bringing the score to 2-1 heading into the third.
Everett would then extend their lead to 3-1 on a powerplay goal by Jackson Berezowski (38) at the 12:47 mark of the third.
But the Royals would pull back within a goal shortly after on marker by defencemen Justin Kipkie (8) at 15:56, assisted by defenceman Kalem Parker and forward Robin Sapousek.
Victoria would push to tie the game in the closing minutes, but an insurance marker by Silvertips forward Austin Roest (31) would ultimately put the game out of reach.
Forward Jackson Berezowski (39) would add an empty netter in the final minute to seal the 5-2 win for Everett.
Looking ahead the Silvertips would return home for a contest against the Portland Winterhawks this coming Friday.
Meanwhile, the Royals will travel to the Mainland for the first leg of a home-and-home contest against the Vancouver Giants at the Langley Events Centre on Friday, Mar. 3. Puck drop for that game is set for 7:30 pm.
