Calgary Hitmen News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen closed the weekend with a Sunday afternoon contest against the B.C. Division's Kelowna Rockets. Calgary picked up a point in 3-2 shootout loss.

It was a slow start for Calgary who went down 2-0 to Kelowna in the first period. Goals came from Carson Golder who would open the scoring just two minutes in, followed up by teammate Dylan Wightman at 7:47 in the first. Brandon Whynott put Calgary on the board just over a minute into the second period making the score 2-1 heading into the final frame. Riley Fiddler-Schultz scored his 26th of the season with helpers from Whynott and David Adaszynski to tie the game up with just over ten minutes to go. At the end of the third, Kelowna went to the box for tripping putting Calgary on the power play for the remainder of regulation, but the game was ultimately forced to extra minutes. A scoreless overtime pushed the game to a shooutout. Andrew Cristall put one past Brayden Peters in the second round which would prove to be the game winner after Kelowna goaltender Jari Kykkanen was able to deny Oliver Tulk in the third round.

Shots finished 35-31 in favour of Calgary with Brayden Peters making 29 saves. There are ten games remaining in the regular season with Calgary currently sitting in the last playoff spot with 56 points.

Calgary now has a six-day break before returning to action Sunday, Mar. 5 when they welcome the Swift Current Broncos to Scotiabank Saddledome for 2:00 p.m. start. The team then travels to Red Deer the following weekend to begin a home-and-home set with the Rebels on Friday, Mar. 10.
