Reading's Hockey Team Partners with Local Homeless Shelter to Enlist Fans, Businesses, Clubs and Organizations in Fund-Raising Push to Support "One-Person for One Year"

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that the team has partnered with the Hope Rescue Mission to initiate the "Champions of Hope" fund-raising campaign with the goal of raising enough money to cover the costs of care, support and training for ten local men from for a full year at the Hope Rescue Mission.

The fund-raising campaign, which will kick off on Friday, April 15, and will culminate with a "Champions of Hope" Dinner on October 8 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown Hotel and Convention Center in Reading, seeks to organize teams of Royals' fans, local businesses, clubs, and organizations each of whom will canvas the community in search of financial support for HRM. The Royals are also planning a 'Night of Hope' home game in late-November during the 2016-17 regular season, when the team will cap off the funding raising effort with a night honoring the historic shelter for its long-term and continuous service in our community. .

"We're excited to kick off this fund-raising effort with the Hope Rescue Mission," said Drew Bell, president of the Royals. "We're initiating the campaign now because we want to have plenty of time for our supporters to get their teams together and begin the process of raising funds. Hope Rescue Mission plays a critical support role in our community, and our goal is to do enough to allow the Mission care for and assist ten local men for a full year, as these men work towards becoming productive and contributing members of our community."

For the "Champions of Hope" campaign, the HRM is establishing up to ten "teams" comprised of friends, family members and/or co-workers; and/or teams that are part of local business entities, clubs and organizations. Each team will be encouraged to raise enough money to house, feed and care for one person for one full year. In order to do so, each team will seek to sign up 52 "team members" willing to donate $120.00 each, which is the cost for a week of care for one person at HRM. Each "team member" participating in the fund raising effort will receive a ticket to the Royals' "Night of Hope" celebration game next season.

Persons interested in participating in the "Champions of Hope" fund-raising effort can contact the Royals' Alexy Posner (aposner@royalshockey.com) for more information.
