Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans open their 7th straight postseason tonight at home against the Idaho Steelheads. Puck drop at Allen Event Center is 7:05 PM.
The two clubs split the regular season series with each winning on the other's home-ice. Allen picked up five out of a possible eight points against Idaho this season, finishing with a 2-1-1 record.
Tristan King led the team in goals against Idaho with three, with a total of six points. Chad Costello was the overall leader against Idaho with seven points (2 goals & 5 assists). Eric Roy had five points in four games against Idaho (1 goal & 4 assists). Riley Gill started all four games against the Steelheads (2-1-1)
"I like our matchup on paper against Idaho, but winning on paper will not win a series," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. 'We have to play solid at both ends of the ice against a hard working team like Idaho."
The Americans special teams was very good against Idaho in the regular season, going 5 for 12 on the power play for 41.7 %, while the penalty kill was at 80 %, stopping 16 of 20 Idaho power play attempts.
Chad Costello finished the season on a 19 game point streak, which is the longest in club history. He also has a 19-game assists streak which is second overall in ECHL history.
Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson announced yesterday on the Americans Playoff Preview Radio Show that Jake Hildebrand will get the start in Game 1, but Riley Gill will see action in the series.
