Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, B.C. - The Victoria Royals announced the signing of forward Grant Reid to a WHL Standard Player Agreement on Thursday.
The 15-year-old was selected by the club with the 47th overall pick in the third round of the 2022 WHL Prospects draft held in May. He is a left-shot forward who has the versatility to line up on the wing or as a centre.
"Signing with the Royals is a real honour," said Reid. "After meeting with Dan (Price), the Royal's staff and touring their facilities, I realized that I will be part of a first-class organization that wants me to be part of its future. They are very focused on my development not only as a player, but as a person. I love and respect the culture the organization promotes, and I genuinely believe I will grow tremendously as a player and an individual during my time with the team."
Reid played his 2021-2022 season with the Yale Academy U15 Prep squad in Abbotsford, BC, where he registered 61 points on 20 goals and 41 assists over 30 games. He also made a number of appearances for Yale's U17 Prep and U18 Prep squad, recording four points in five games at the U17 level and playing in three games during the U18's playoff run.
The Surrey, BC product is touted for his strong offensive instincts and playmaking abilities. He also brings strength and athleticism, demonstrating the timing, agility and durability required to create offence in primary scoring areas.
"First and foremost, we're so excited to welcome great people like Grant and the Reid family to the Royals organization," said General Manager and Head Coach Dan Price. "Grant's development and evolution as a player is impressive, and this stems from his high level of commitment to the game of hockey and to the process of continual improvement. His personality and style of play fit incredibly well with his fellow prospects and with the Royals culture overall. He's a big part of the chemistry in our younger age groups and we're eager to begin working with him at training camp this fall."
Reid will join his new Royals teammates when training camp opens later this summer.
"I am looking forward to meeting the team and players my age at camp," added Reid. "I am excited to skate, work out with them and begin developing friendships. I can't wait to get a feel of the environment I will be around for the next several years. I already have a great connection with the coaching staff, so it will be exciting to see the practice plans in action and everything we have talked about leading up to camp. I will continue to work hard over the summer to be prepared for camp."
