Reading Royals News Release

The Reading Royals and Wheeling Nailers met for the second straight night in Wes Banco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Royals evened the Northern Division Semifinal series at one game apiece with a 3-2 victory. For Reading, it was their first win in seven tries in the regular and post-season. Judd Medak (1g, 1a) and Kent Davyduke (3a) led the way for Reading, who will host the Nailers tomorrow in game three in the Sovereign Center in Reading.

The Reading Royals got off to a great start in the first period jumping on top just 5:42 into the game. David Masse scored his team leading third goal of the post-season and second goal on the power play to give the Royals a 1-0 advantage. Kent Davyduke and Judd Medak registered their first post-season points picking up assists. The Royals converted one of three two chances on the power play and outshot the Nailers 11 to 8 in the first stanza.

The Royals continued where they left off in the first period registering their second power play goal just a minute thirty into the second period to take a two-goal lead. Judd Medak picked up his first post-season marker, and second point of the night, deflecting a Reagan Rome shot from the point. Kent Davyduke also chipped in an assist on the goal. Wheeling got on the scoreboard just under six minutes later as Mark Kosick picked up a loose puck after a Cody Rudkowsky save to cut the Royals lead in half. Eddie Pershin and Steve Crampton were credited with the helpers. Reading extended it's lead to two again as Mat Snesrud accepted a cross ice pass from Kent Davyduke and fired the puck past Tyler MacKay. For Snesrud, it was his first professional playoff goal. Doug Nolan also registered an assist. Reading ended the second period one of one on the extra man advantage while Wheeling was one of three. The Nailers outshot the Royals 12-9 in the middle period.

In the third, Brad Mehalko would cut the Royals lead to one but Wheeling could get no closer. The Royals and Nailers meet for games three and four in Reading on Saturday and Tuesday, April 13. All the action can be found via the Royals website at www.royalshockey.com or locally on ESPN radio, 1240AM.
