OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals are donating over $2,600 to the flood relief efforts in four Iowa cities. The Royals announced last week that they would give 50 cents from every ticket sold to their game on Saturday, July 5, vs. the Memphis Redbirds to the flood relief efforts. A total of $2,561 was raised from ticket sales to that game, along with an anonymous $100 donation bringing the total to $2,661.
In late June, Minor League Baseball established MiLB Charities, a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The first act of the newly created charitable arm of Minor League Baseball was to donate $50,000 to the four Minor League cities in Iowa affected by the recent floods: Burlington, Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Des Moines. In conjunction with that endeavor, Minor League Baseball clubs were encouraged to stage a "Flood Relief Night" over the July 4th holiday weekend.
"It is our pleasure to contribute as much as we can to our friends in Iowa," said Royals General Manager Martie Cordaro. "We wish all the areas in Iowa affected by flooding the best of luck in their recovery and also wish the four Minor League teams a successful second half of the season."
