Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Las Vegas, NV - Terry Tiffee had four hits, including a two run home run, and got plenty of help from his friends as the Las Vegas 51's beat the Sidewinders 11-4 on Monday night. The victory is the fourth for Las Vegas in five games against Tucson at Cashman Field this year.
Tiffee's two run blast in the first got Las Vegas started against Sidewinders starter Matt Torra. Torra (1-2) suffered his shortest outing of the season as he lasted just 3.1 innings allowing eight runs on 11 hits.
John Lindsey and Rene Rivera each had three hits and Mitch Jones and Angel Chavez each drove in a pair of runs to lead the 51's offensive attack. In five games against the Sidewinders in Sin City this season, the 51's have scored 56 runs.
The Sidewinders were down 5-0 in the fourth inning when they scored a pair of runs on back to back sacrifice flies from Donnie Kelly and Wilkin Castillo. Las Vegas came right back with four in the bottom of the inning giving them a 9-2 lead and chasing Torra from the game.
Tucson picked up a pair of solo home runs late. Phil Avlas hit his first of the season in the sixth and Tim Raines, Jr. hit his 9th of the year in the seventh.
B.J. LaMura pitched the final four innings out of the Vegas bullpen for his first save of the season.
The Sidewinders and 51's play game two of their series on Tuesday night at Cashman Field. Right-hander Esmerling Vasquez (1-3, 6.66) starts for Tucson against right-hander Jason Schmidt (0-0, 7.20) for Las Vegas. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
