Cubs Hoffpauir Earns Hitter Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -The Pacific Coast League today announced Iowa infielder Micah Hoffpauir has been named PCL Hitter of Week and Tucson pitcher Billy Buckner has been named PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of June 30th-July 6th.

Cubs infielder Hoffpauir had a successful week at the plate slugging three home runs, eight doubles, and 14 RBI to go along with a .485 (16-for-33) average and a 1.000 slugging percentage. The Fort Worth, Texas native helped lead the I-Cubs to a 6-and-1 record for the week en route to the PCL's best record (55-37). His top performance was on the Fourth of July against Omaha when he went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI. Hoffpauir was selected in the 13th round of the 2002 draft by the Chicago Cubs.

Buckner produced two solid outings for the Sidewinders this past week. Against Fresno on June 30th he tossed eight shutout innings, allowing four hits and striking out six batters although earning a no-decision. Against Salt Lake on July 5th he tossed seven shutout innings and allowed four hits and struck out five batters to earn the victory. The Decatur, Georgia native was drafted out of the University of South Carolina by the Kansas City Royals in the second round of the 2004 draft. He was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks from the Royals in December 2007 for infielder Alberto Callaspo.
