Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

TODAY: The Royals face the Nashville Sounds in a 6:00 p.m. game at Greer Stadium. The Sounds lead the 5-game series 2-1, while the season series is tied 7-7. The pre-game show airs at 5:40 p.m. on News Talk 1420 KOTK and at www.oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: The Royals were once again swept in a doubleheader, dropping the opener 5-3 and getting edged 2-1 in the nightcap. In the lid-lifter, Carlos Rosa made his 1st start in nearly a month due to injury, but it did not go well. Rosa (4-3) gave up 4 runs (3 earned) in 1.0 inning, being relieved with the bases full and no outs in the 2nd, when Nashville broke a 1-1 tie by scoring 3 runs. Kila Ka'aihue hit a 2-run homer in the 6th off Sam Narron (7-3) to make it 5-3, but Joe Bateman relieved with 1 out and Royals at 1st and 2nd and Brian Buchanan lined into a 5-4 double play. Bateman retired the side in order in the 7th to pick up his 2nd save. In the nightcap, the Sounds took advantage of a fielding error by Ka'aihue at 1st base to score an unearned run off Matt Wright (3-8) in the 5th and take a 2-1 lead. Mitch Stetter (2-3) got the win with a perfect inning of relief and Tim Dillard staggered to his 2nd save, as the Royals stranded runners at the corners in the 6th and left the bases loaded in the 7th.

ROYALS REPORT: Last night marked Omaha's 11th - and last scheduled - doubleheader this season and it was the 7th time that the Royals have been swept. The other 4 twin bills have been splits. *** Prior to his start last night, Rosa had not pitched since July 13 due to soreness in his right forearm. *** Ka'aihue's home run in game 1 Saturday night gave him homers in back-to-back games for the 2nd time in his 1st 10 games with Omaha. It also came off a lefty in Narron. Ka'aihue has gone 5-for-12 (.417) with 3 home runs off Triple-A lefties and is 9-for-25 (.360) with 3 homers off right-handers at this level. The 24-year old left-handed batter, who started the season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, hit just 1 of his 26 long balls in the Texas League off a southpaw pitcher. His homer last night extended Ka'ahuie's hitting streak with Omaha to his 1st 10 games. It was snapped in game 2, as he went 0-for-1, but he walked twice giving him 8 walks and a .489 on-base percentage in his 1st 11 Triple-A contests. On the season, his 32 home runs are tied for 4th-most in the minors. *** Reliever Tyler Lumsden finished last night's opener with 1.2 perfect innings. In 4 appearances since coming off the disabled list on July 30, Lumsden has hurled 6.2 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 hits and no walks, striking out 2. The scoreless streak has lowered his ERA from 7.27 to 6.72. *** Wright recorded a 6.0-inning complete game in Saturday's nightcap. It was just the 2nd complete game effort by an Omaha pitcher this season. Brandon Duckworth recorded a 7.0-inning complete game in game 1 of a twin bill vs. Oklahoma on June 29. He was the tough-luck loser in that contest, as the RedHawks' Dustin Nippert tossed a no-hitter to beat the Royals 2-0. *** Angel Sanchez injured his hand in last night's opener and was pinch-hit for by Brian Buchanan in the 4th inning. Buchanan, who was 0-for-5 on the night, is hitless in his last 19 at-bats. *** Gookie Dawkins, who took over for Sanchez at shortstop the rest of the night Saturday, is on a 6-game hitting streak, picking up just 1 hit in each contest. Over his last 22 games, Dawkins is hitting .319 (30-for-94) with 4 home runs and 11 RBI. *** KC today recalled reliever Josh Newman from Omaha. The 26-year old lefty takes the 25-man roster spot of southpaw reliever Horacio Ramirez. He was traded Saturday to the Chicago White Sox for speedy outfielder Paulo Orlando, who's being sent to High Class-A Wilmington. Ramirez, called up from Omaha on June 22, was 1-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 15 appearances for KC. Newman, claimed by KC off waivers from the Rockies on July 11, was 1-2 with a 2.97 ERA and 1 save in 25 games (2 starts) between Colorado Springs and Omaha. Newman was 0-0 with a 9.35 ERA in 8 outings with the Rockies this year. However, he had a 3.38 ERA in his 1st 7 appearances for Colorado, before allowing 6 runs in two-thirds of an inning on May 26 at Philadelphia.

STARTERS: RH Jose Capellan (4-1, 3.56) vs. LH Chris Narveson (4-12, 5.10)

Capellan makes his 5th (6th appearance) with Omaha. The 27-year old right-hander's last outing was a start vs. Colorado Springs last Tuesday, when he took the loss in the Royals' 8-5 defeat (6.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 BB, 3 K, 1 HR). He was signed by KC as a minor league free agent on June 23 and briefly worked out at KC's complex in Surprise, Arizona before joining Omaha. Capellan opened this year in the Rockies' organization, after being acquired by Colorado from Detroit last December in a trade for former KC and Omaha pitcher Denny Bautista. He began this season with Colorado Springs, going 2-0 with a 3.94 ERA in 3 starts. The Rockies purchased his contract on April 26 and he pitched in relief that night in Los Angeles vs. the Dodgers, allowing 1 run on 3 hits over 2.0 innings, striking out 2. That was his only appearance before the Rockies designated him for assignment on May 2 and he elected free agency. Capellan has also seen action in the Major Leagues each of the last 4 seasons, making 98 appearances with Atlanta (2004), Milwaukee (2005-2007) and Detroit (2007). Entering 2007, he was rated as the Brewers' 9th-best prospect by Baseball America. He opened last season with Nashville and was recalled by the Brewers on June 1, before being traded to the Tigers in exchange for LHP Chris Cody on July 1. He split the rest of the campaign between Detroit and Toledo. His combined 2007 Major League numbers: 0-3, 5.54 ERA in 17 games; in the minors last year: 3-3, 4.34 ERA in 26 games (3 starts). In 2006, he made a career-high 61 relief appearances with Milwaukee, going 4-2 with a 4.40 ERA. He was rated by Baseball America as the Brewers' 4th-best prospect entering 2005 and spent most of the year with Nashville, but posted a 2.87 ERA in 17 games for Milwaukee. Capellan was acquired by the Brewers, along with a player to be named, prior to the '05 season from Atlanta in exchange for RHP Dan Kolb. He was originally signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent in August 1998.

PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES:

Mon., 6:00 p.m.: LH Jimmy Gobble (0-0, 3.86) vs. RH Nic Ungs (1-2, 12.86)
