New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Omaha Royals got three-hit nights from Billy Butler and Ryan Shealy, and won their fourth straight game on their 16-game road trip at Zephyr Field on Saturday, 8-3. After a 1 hour, 2 minute delay at the start of the game as the New Orleans Zephyrs waited for the equipment to arrive due to weather delays in Dallas, the Z's had their first nine batters retired by Omaha starter Tyler Lumsden.
Meanwhile the Royals, who started their 16-game trip in New Orleans by winning three of four games June 9-12, grabbed a 4-0 lead. Damon Hollins hit a two-run homer in the second inning off losing pitcher Brian Stokes (7-6).
The Zephyrs clawed back to within 5-3 on an RBI singles by Anderson Hernandez in the fifth and John Rodriguez in the sixth, and a throwing error by Omaha third baseman Gookie Dawkins that allowed Raul Gonzalez to score.
Rodriguez finished with three hits to pace the Zephyrs offense, which struggled to capitalize on their scoring chances. The Z's stranded 10 baserunners, and grounded into three double plays.
Omaha scored three times in the ninth against Ivan Maldonado to put the game away on three straight hits - doubles by Shane Costa and Billy Butler and a single by Brayan Pena.
Lumsden (3-7) gave up four hits and walked four in five innings, but surrendered just one run to earn the win.
The second game of the series is Sunday at 2:00 p.m., with RHP Nelson Figueroa facing LHP Dusty Hughes.
