
Tucson Takes First Game from Las Vegas 5-1

Tucson, AZ - Five early runs secured a 5-1 victory for Tucson over Las Vegas on Saturday night at Tucson Electric Park behind a strong outing by starter Matt Torra.
Torra got his first win in a Tucson Sidewinders' uniform going seven innings and only allowing one run off of five hits. The Sidewinders gave Torra an early lead with all five of their runs coming in the first two innings.
In the first inning Tim Raines, Jr. scored the first run of the game off a Jamie D'Antona sacrifice fly. Next batter Josh Whitesell brought in the next run when he singled to center scoring Trent Oeltjen.
In the second inning Tucson's Jesus Merchan lead off the inning with a triple and was brought in by a Matt Torra double. Torra scored off an Oeltjen sac fly and Whitesell drove in another run off an RBI single.
Las Vegas got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning when Angel Chavez hit a solo homerun left, which is his fifth of the season.
The Sidewinders will face Las Vegas in the second game of the series on Sunday at 6:00 PM. RHP Esmerling Vasquez (1-2, 7.01) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Jason Johnson (6-5, 7.01) will start for the 51s. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 5:50 p.m.
