Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals took down the Prince George Cougars, ranked sixth in the CHL, 3-0 in the second contest of a back-to-back series as netminder Griffen Outhouse recorded his sixth career WHL shutout.
Outhouse stopped all 40 shots the Cougars fired his way that included a game-high 16 shots in the opening stanza, to earn first star honours. With the victory, the Likely, BC product registered his 19th win of the season, which is the third best mark among all goaltenders in the WHL.
The Royals' Jack Walker recorded the game-winning goal in the first period when he beat Cougars' goaltender Nick McBride with a snap-shot glove side. Victoria's Vladimir Bobylev tallied his first goal of the season with a deflection in the middle frame, while Chaz Reddekopp rounded out the scoring in the final period when he released a shot that went off the crossbar and in. With his marker, Reddekopp has now tallied a point in nine consecutive (4g-8a) games.
In a rough contest, the two teams combined for a total of 158 penalty minutes, as Victoria amassed 55 in the third period, while Prince George collected 69.
The Cougars' McBride made 22 saves on the 25 shots directed his way.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the man-advantage as both clubs went 0/50.0%.
Victoria is back in action on Friday, December 30th in Kelowna to face the Rockets with puck drop slated for 7:05 p.m. The Royals will then travel to the Island Savings Centre to battle with the Kamloops Blazers on New Year's Eve with game time set for 5:00 p.m.
