Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Patrick Bajkov scored a goal and added an assist to help lift the Everett Silvertips a wire-to-wire victory, 4-1 over the visiting Vancouver Giants before 4,602 fans at XFINITY Arena on Wednesday in WHL action.
The Silvertips earned their league leading 17th victory at home and surged to the top record in the WHL after Prince George, Friday's opponent, was handed a 3-0 defeat at Victoria. The Silvertips, guaranteed a season series victory, improved to 4-0-1 against Vancouver this season with one more game left in the set (Feb. 4 in Everett).
Graham Millar also added a goal and an assist while Mario Petit rebounded from last night's 5-4 OT loss with a 22 save effort.
Bajkov slammed a one-timer, set up by Dominic Zwerger's feed to the left circle, for a 1-0 lead at 5:34 of the opening period and Millar deflected Ian Walker's point shot (first career WHL point) past Ryan Kubic at 14:12 for a 2-0 bulge.
Lucas Skrumeda capitalized off an end zone face-off win and thrusted a point shot through traffic that glanced off Eetu Tuulola for his 10th goal and a 3-0 lead just 3:18 into the second period, but Vancouver spoiled Petit's shutout bid on Jeff Rayman's blast from the top of the left circle at 7:27. The Giants, down 3-1, wouldn't be heard from for the remainder of the night.
The Silvertips managed the clock in the third period and Zwerger sealed the game with an empty netter from the blueline with 2:10 to play.
Kubic made 30 saves in the loss for Vancouver.
The Silvertips host Prince George in their next game, the "Throwback Classic," Friday at 7:35 p.m. at XFINITY Arena. Ticket packages including a throwback style hat are on sale for as low as $14 at www.everettsilvertips.com/throwback.
