
Royals Announce Roster Moves Involving Former Naturals

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -The Kansas City Royals announced roster moves on Monday that involve six former Naturals. Prior to the Royals game Monday night against the Texas Rangers, pitchers Will Smith and Everett Teaford were optioned to Triple-A Omaha, while pitchers Michael Mariot and Yordano Ventura were reassigned to minor league camp.
Following their 8-2 loss to the Rangers, the Royals reassigned infielders Christian Colon and Anthony Seratelli to minor league camp.
Smith pitched in four games this spring, giving up seven hits and six runs, but only two earned, in 11 innings. He had been part of the competition for the final spot in the Royals starting rotation. Teaford gave up three runs, none of them earned, on three hits in two Cactus League games. Ventura made five spring training appearances, two of them starts. In 11 2/3 innings, Ventura gave up five runs on nine hits and recorded seven strikeouts. Ventura enters 2013 ranked as the Royals No. 3 prospect according to MLB.com. Mariot gave up three runs on three hits in seven spring training innings.
Colon batted .222 in 27 Cactus League at-bats with six hits and four RBI along with three strikeouts. Colon was the 2012 Naturals Player of the Year. Seratelli batted .208 with five hits and seven strikeouts in 24 spring at-bats.
