Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, today announced that organization has joined forces with the American Red Cross to raise funds for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

As a part of the joint effort to raise money and awareness for the Gulf Coast victims, the Royals will wear commemorative replica jerseys from the New Orleans Brass, the ECHL franchise previously based in the hurricane ravaged city, during the Royals home game against the Dayton Bombers on November 18 at the Sovereign Center. After the game, the jerseys will be auctioned with the proceeds going to the Red Cross' effort to assist the hurricane victims. The Royals and the Red Cross also intend to have a variety other activities during the game to aid the fundraising effort. In addition, the Royals have donated space on two dasher boards within the Sovereign Center to the Red Cross for the entire 2005-06 season in order to maintain awareness of the situation in the Gulf Coast.

Gordon Kaye, the Royals' general manager, stated that the organization is pleased to be directly involved in the effort to aid the hurricane victims. "Our organization is committed to doing all within our power to help those who were impacted by the recent hurricanes on the Gulf Coast. We want to applaud the quick and effective response of the Red Cross in this tragic circumstance and at the same time raise funds to assist in their efforts. Our league has had a long-existing relationship with a number of communities in the region, including the City of New Orleans. We're proud to have the opportunity to wear and auction the New Orleans' Brass commemorative jerseys as a part of this fundraising effort. We also believe that it's important to maintain awareness of the situation in the Gulf Coast, and that is why we thought it was particularly appropriate to donate the dasher board space for the entire season to the Red Cross."

"The Berks County Chapter is thrilled to be partnering with the Reading Royals to assist those affected by disaster," said Adrian Grieve, Executive Director of the Berks County Chapter of the American Red Cross. "This partnership will help our organization to assist those in need, both nationally and locally. This relationship with the Royals will help the Red Cross to continue providing relief to the victims of the recent hurricanes, in addition to serving Berks County residents who have been affected by disaster."

The American Red Cross Disaster Relief program provides assistance to the victims of natural disasters free of charge, which is made possible by the donations of time and money from the American people. It is expected that more than $2 billion will be needed to meet the costs for the emergency needs of Hurricane Katrina survivors, alone. The Red Cross provides a variety of goods and services for victims of natural disasters, including food and shelter, physical and mental medical care, and emergency financial assistance.
