Steve Nash Kicks Off RoadRunners NBA Weekend

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL have announced that Phoenix Suns guard and NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash will kick off the RoadRunners NBA Weekend at America West Arena by serving as the club's honorary team captain and dropping the ceremonial first puck prior to Friday's home game against the San Diego Gulls.

Nash received league MVP honors and was a First Team All-NBA selection following the 2004-05 season in which he averaged 15.5 points per game and an NBA-best 11.5 assists. He joined a select group of Bob Cousy, Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, and Allen Iverson as the only guards in NBA history to be named the league's MVP. Nash grew up in Victoria, British Columbia and played hockey as a kid.

The Suns Dancers and the Famous Gorilla will also be entertaining the crowd over the weekend.

In conjunction with NBA Weekend, the RoadRunners will wear special Phoenix Suns-themed jerseys on Friday and Saturday. These jerseys will be available for purchase through an online auction at www.phxroadrunners.com beginning on Wednesday, November 1 and running through November 11. All proceeds from the auction will go directly to Phoenix Suns Charities.

The first 2,000 fans will receive RoadRunners Thunderstix on Friday. Saturday, the first 2,000 kids will receive a RoadRunners Backpack sponsored by Dr. Michael Zacher, DDS.

Season-ticker holders will be able to pick up their RoadRunners inaugural season jersey gift at the game on Friday.
