Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that the Royals have acquired the rights to forward Justin Bourne ("BORN") (6'2"/195 lbs.) (24) from the Alaska Aces in return for the rights to defenseman Lee Green. Bourne, who last year was selected as the Most Valuable Player for the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves, finished out the season with the ECHL's Aces, where he scored three goals and assisted on three others in nine games. Bourne also played eight playoff games for the Aces, bagging three goals and two assists in the post-season.
In thirty-seven games for UAA last year, Bourne, who hails from Kelowna, British Columbia, racked up ten goals and a team-leading twenty-one assists (31 points), as he became the first Seawolf since 2003-04 to register more than thirty points in a single season. Bourne also led UAA in game winning goals with four-two of which came in overtime. Bourne also assisted on the dramatic overtime game winner in Game Two of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association first round playoff series against the highly favored Minnesota Golden Gophers. Over the course of his four year career with the UAA, Bourne amassed 84 total points in 149 games, placing him tied for 31st in all-time scoring in school history. Bourne, who received the Leon Thompson Fan Favorite Award in his senior season at UAA, played in more games than any other player in team history, as he missed only one game during his four year career. Bourne, whose father (Bob) was a member of the New York Islanders during the Stanley Cup dynasty era of the early eighties, has reportedly had a stellar mini-camp performance with the Islanders this summer.
The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
