Royal fall to Sound
January 22, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Montreal Royal News Release
Montreal, Canada. The ABA Montreal Royal, playing their third game in three nights, fell to the Strong Island Sound by a score of 88-77 in front of a large crowed at the Pierre-Charbonneau Center. Trailing 50-41 at halftime, the Royal could not contain the offensive effort by the Sound as they continued to extend their lead late in the third quarter. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that the Royal came alive and made an impressive comeback. With the score 82-77 and five minutes left, the Royal could not get the defensive stops needed to finally gain the upper hand on the Sound.
Montreal was led once again by forward Damon Jones with a season high 30 points. Rookie Marco Volcy chipped in 18. The Royal's next game will be on Thu, Jan 24 versus the Vermont Frost Heaves. This will be the third meeting between the two with Vermont winning the first two meetings. The newly revamped Royal hope to have a nice surprise for the Frost Heaves. Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
