Royal take game one

March 18, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Montreal Royal News Release

Singapore. With the leadership of associate coach Paul Stephens (head coach David King could not make the trip to Singapore), the ABA Montreal Royal win the first game of a two game series over the Beijing Aoshen Olympian, 134-130. "They were really a great team," said Mike Delva, but there was a point that we knew that we wanted it more. The crowd did not seem to be for either team, they just liked great players; whoever did a nice move got some great cheers, so it helped the guys play a little better. Maybe it was because we were in Singapore and not Beijing that made it a middle ground. But one thing is for sure, when Marco Volcy got hurt by a couple of elbows and he could no longer be with us, it got some players mad and that helped us win the game. The guys were motivated to win and they did.

"With less than a minute to play, Montreal stole the ball. Tommy Mitchell hit a three, and the rest is history. We were down by two, and then led with that shot. Tommy makes two free throws and we win by 4," added Delva. For more information, visit www.mtlroyal.com or www.abalive.com.
