Express off track against Cape Cod
January 22, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release
Newark, NJ. On Father and Son Night, the ABA Newark Express fell to the Cape Cod Frenzy in a nail biting come from behind finish by a score of 103-98. With Cape Cod seemingly comfortably ahead by a score of 58-39 at halftime, the Express mounted a significant run to cut the Frenzy lead to 82-72 at the end of the third quarter.
Going into the fourth quarter, the Express counted the Frenzy line-up by going small, with the tallest man in the lineup standing 6'7. Under extremely full-court pressure, the Frenzy turned the ball over on several occasions in 3-D. The 3-D rule is unique to the ABA in that a converted basket is worth an extra point. The Express pulled to within 3 points with less than a minute to go, when Cape Cod attempted to run the clock down. With time running down, Newark was forced to foul guard Sly McIntosh, who knocked down both free throws that resulted in the final score.
The Express were led again by point guard Johan Matos with 18 points, 7 assists and 8 steals. Cape Cod was led by All Star Rob Sanders with 40 points and 11 rebounds.
The Weecquatic High School Marching Band entertained those fans attending the game all evening. The fans were treated to a great game and a talented display of showmanship from one of the most talented and successful high school marching bands around. The Newark Express is dedicated to providing exciting, fun-filled family entertainment.
