Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA - (July 8, 2009) - The Brockton Rox pushed its winning streak to a season-high five games with a second consecutive double header sweep over the Worcester Tornadoes at Campanelli Stadium on Wednesday night. 1B Clyde Williams provided late-inning heroics in an 8-7 walk-off win in the first game, and Fall River, MA native RHP Buster Lussier dazzled in a 5-1 victory in the night cap.

Game One was a back-and-forth battle as Worcester jumped out to a 3-0 lead, only to see the Rox erase that advantage with five runs in the fourth inning. Worcester tied the game in the fifth and the two teams traded runs until the Tornadoes held a 7-6 advantage in the final scheduled inning of play. Trailing by a run, Williams led off the seventh inning with a solo home run to tie the game. An inning later, he drove in 3B Morgan Brown with the game's decisive run with an RBI single to center. LHP Brad Hertzler earned his second win in a Rox uniform with a scoreless inning of relief.

In the night cap, Fall River, MA native RHP Buster Lussier scattered three hits over six innings and allowed just one run to earn the win in his Brockton Rox debut. Meanwhile, the Rox tagged Worcester starter RHP Chris Farley for four runs on six hits in the second inning alone to jump out in front early. DH Palmer Karr hit his league-leading 10th home run of the season to start the scoring. It was his sixth solo home run of the season. Eight of the nine starters in the Rox lineup scored or drove in a run in the 5-1 win. RHP Matt Zachary cleaned up in the last inning, recording the final three outs without allowing a run.

Brockton is back at .500 for the first time since June 12th and is riding a season-high five-game winning streak. With eight games remaining in the first half of the season, the Rox welcome the Quebec Capitales to Campanelli Stadium beginning Friday at 7:05 PM.
